News tonight around the paddocks confirms the rumours set out about a month ago towards the completion of the 2022 season. The 22 year old driver that made their debut into the scene with Highwind last year has penned a contract signing him to the German outfit until the end of the season, and the team remain confident of a further deal, should the right performances arise during the season.
Alongside him remains now-experienced driver Yakumi Takahashi, who should remain the number one driver in the team's hierarchy this season, a more communcative and developmental outlook being taken on Daniel for 2023 at least, with looks to refine the raw skill he's shown against Xylander in the completed season, and his numerous succesful youth category drives. Team principal Ben Farrell reiterated the team's confidence in the young pole to become 'something really successful' in the world of Formula Virtual, and backed him to challenge Yakumi Takahashi for what could be hoped as an important season for the team , with Ben stating personally that 'many loved teams and brands have left the sport, but the goal was to stabilise and finish above those new teams heading into the season'. Daniel, being the VERS 2018 champion and 2019 VWRS runner-up, brings a wealth of winning experience to the team, although currently with 0 FV points to his name, has stated he is optimistic of scoring many in the upcoming season, and is quietly confident in the team's ability as he witnesses the development progress into 2023. AMR have today confirmed that the Swiss driver Finn Schnyder will be racing alongside team newcomer and prodigy Nathaniel Powers, with Ukraine’s Dmytro Kovalenko returning to reserve and test duties for the 2023 season.
I can hear DJs pumping the beats in the Swiss equivalent of a Fitzroy Garage Party up the street. I'm finishing the last of my jelly shots before shooting into town to celebrate new years with the Lopez team at Volkshaus. Little birdie tells me it's gonna be a rowdy one tonight! But hey, how else would you wanna introduce another lap of the sun right?
I reckon I arrived at the Volkshaus at like.. 7:45? Definitely before 8. Knowing that the Lopez team were running tonight's festivities, I felt obliged to wear something yellow. I remembered however before I left however that I did not have a single piece of yellow clothing in my possession! I was saved by a staff member at the entrance, who was giving away yellow Lopez branded beanies. Listen, it'll do! And I do have to say, they don't look too shabby. Almost the first person I run into once I get to the line for bathroom is, of all people, Max Meyer! I ended up whipping out the only Afrikaans I know, "Hoe gaan dit?" Oh you should've seen the look on his face when he started replying in Afrikaans and realising I didn't have a scooby doo as to what he was talking about! Suddenly he has to scoot off toward the stage however as the master of ceremonies had come up to take the microphone. All I could hear in the bathroom was mumble-jumble, but by the time I'd come out and snuck a rum & coke from the paid bar, the lady was still going about her spiel on 2022, reflecting, looking forward to the future, blah, blah, blah. You get it. After all, I'm hear to have a good time with free drinks, and to break my new years resolution by 12:45am. You can absolutely bet your bottom dollar that I haven't even set one yet. Next up on stage are 2 drivers who are apparently sharing reserve duties because one of them is still on and off with the navy? Gee whiz, that's commitment. I think his name was Östberg, but how do you even pronounce that Ö? I know I ask the tough questions when I'm tipsy. My girlfriend tells me it's when I become a changed man. I'm sure that's a good thing. The other person with... that name I don't wanna mispronounce, is Raj Sharma! Ah, at least that's easier to pronounce. Somehow I remember somebody saying he speaks 5 languages fluently (English, French, Hindi, Punjabi & Spanish). Must go alright this kid! My mate who I couldn't understand 20 minutes ago was next to grace the stage, as one of the senior drivers for Lopez in 2023. I started calling him Maximilian Meyer the longer the night grew. Don't ask why, it just has a nice ring to it. He must've liked it though, cos later on he shouted me this thing called Ponchos. "Caramel infused Tequila, Product of South Africa." I need to go and find some of that stuff in 2023. Mixed it with coke and it literally tasted like pure vanilla. Hell yeah! I could drink whatever the hell that stuff is that til the cows come home! After him, the most memorale part of the night, bearing in mind I don't remember a whole lot else afterwards. Sergio Álvarez comes up and is revealed to once again race alongside Meyer in 2023. Just quietly, he looked absolutely pissed on stage. He was slow to reply, very wobbly on his feet. If anything he looked like what I probably would've looked as I continued to down the liquid gold passed on to me from Max. We're all here to have a great time, but lowkey I'm a little worried Sergio mightn't make it to midnight! As you expect, from what I remember, plenty of dumb things took place as we all partied hard set to welcome the new year. My headache is still throbbing and I have a proper bruise on my left hip. Apparentlty Sergio Alvarez did end up lasting til midnight, albeit just. Therefore I look forward to reliving the whole experience of last night in my DMs, all while wondering "where on earth was Dylan Lopez last night?" I've since found out he's been hit with a rough bout of the flu. I'm sure he'd join me however in wishing all a prosperous Happy New Year! PS. Oh, and by the way, when on earth did I score this ugly-ass looking beanie? |
