Australian outfit AMR have unwrapped the AMR-FV-9 for their ninth year of competition, heralding an aggressive new aero package, a new Downton engine, a star newcomer, and a hint of the past and future in the livery design. The new look AMR is a throwback to their Force Australia and Australasian Motorsport Research era, featuring a predominantly white car with colour streaks along the length. The blue and yellow swaps for blue and orange as a nod to the new Downton package, featuring not just an engine, but also the highly rated champion Nathaniel Powers, who lost his seat midway through 2022. The blue also matches the colour of Ford, who backed the team for many years. Also featured is a green and gold fading pattern; a homage to the Australian green and gold sporting colours, but also to Ingram and Jaguar, who saw the team return to their points-scoring ways. The pattern forms wings when seen above the car, paying tribute to the Lufthansa wings of old, and of transition and change as the colours fade away. “We are absolutely stoked with the car, and the designers smashed the brief for the new look,” said the ever-jubilant team principal Adrian Arnello. “Like, look at it! How sick is that? In seriousness, I think we have a very good chance this year. We’re wanting that first podium so bad. The car looks and sounds mega! We’ve got two amazing drivers to push it to the limit too.” Jan Milner, the technical lead, was more reserved, but just as optimistic. “What we’ve got here is something good,” he began, “but we should remain realistic. We’ve sat at the back for years before 2022, and it takes a lot of work to figure out a way forward but also have a competitive edge.” “It’s a very good car. Our own tests have us excited, and while there’s more to do, and more development throughout the year to meet, we know we’ve got something special this time. Our aim is AMR’s first podium, and that will remain our goal from here on out, until we truly break the mold.” AMR’s hidden third founder, Rob Ronson, was unavailable for comment. Each driver had their own unique input, sharing the optimism, but also warning against false hopes. “It’s great to be back racing again, and with my team’s [Downton] help, we’re backing AMR to do great things this season,” said Britain’s Nathaniel Powers, the new champion driver. “The car is quick, quite quick. Might not be my old drives, but it’s a good one, and a seat nonetheless. I think we can take this car far.” “I am very thankful to Downton and AMR for this opportunity, and I will not waste it.” “It’s better than what I’ve had before, that’s for sure,” quipped the Swiss driver Finn Schnyder. “It’s been a few long seasons before 2022 and now this year. People have asked me why I stay with AMR when they are slow. Well, I answer, it’s because of the people. I can see the effort, the passion, and the dedication in every part. We knew the hard work would pay off, and we hope that’s the case this time around. It’s been a long journey, but I’m hopeful!” Ukrainian reserve Dmytro Kovalenko had little to say, but something to add. “It’s quick. I think testing will be good.” The full release of livery images is available below.
