The Westwood team gathered at the Botniaring this afternoon to wish a farewell to Tumo Kinnumen, who retired at the end of the 2023 season.
The FVA have announced changes to tyre strategy choices for the upcoming season. The 2024 Formula Virtual season will see teams having to strategically plan out their tyre strategies across the season. Each team will be allocated a set amount of each tyre compound to use across the season. Each car is allocated five sets each of the soft, medium, and hard tyre to use across the sixteen-race season. The teams will be able to select a wildcard set of tyre compound of their choosing to make up the sixteen-race season.
FVA technical director, Robert Mathershaw, was available to comment. “I’m really excited by the prospect of the new tyre strategy rules - one of Formula Virtual’s greatest successes has been its balance between the technical and sporting regulations in the past decade, and that’s something within the FVA we are constantly striving to maintain and improve. Alongside the new technical regulations for 2024, I think this introduces a wonderful strategic element to each V-Prix and indeed the season as a whole.” “I’ve always been a huge advocate that motorsport is as much about the people on the pit wall and back at base as it is the driving talent, and this will provide a perfect opportunity to prove that point. I’m very excited to see who can make the most of the new rules as we uncover the full nuance that they will bring to each race weekend - I’m not even sure how I’d play it just yet!”, said Mathershaw. The FVA will be monitoring to check teams do not exceed their allocation of a tyre compound. However, the team remains accountable to make sure this doesn't happen, and if it does, the team will be fined 5 million and excluded from the race weekend they used the unlawful tyre set in. The teams must also state clearly to the FVA when they are using their wild card tyre set. |
