It has been confirmed that Robert Mathershaw will join the FVA. Robert Mathershaw will join the FVA (Formula Virtual Association) as the official Technical Director. Mathershaw announced he would be stepping away from running a FV team for 2023 but noted that he wanted to stay in the sport in some capacity. It is believed the FVA reached out to Mathershaw and offered him the role.
“I’m beyond delighted to join the FVA team as Technical Director - after the end of the season, Nic presented me with this opportunity, and it was something I simply couldn’t pass up. I’ve had a decade in the sport, and while I knew stepping away from team management was the best move for me, I also knew I wouldn’t be leaving the paddock completely, it was just a question of how I remained. It’s an honor to take up such a role, and I look forward to being part of Formula Virtual’s continued strength for the future, as well as seeing the sport from a different angle for the first time. Working with Nic and all of the teams to continue to develop the championship’s technical regulations is a challenge I shall relish!”, said Mathershaw. "Rob brings a lot to the FVA, having had the experience of competing in the sport for the last ten years with a team, and above all a wealth of knowledge on the technical side of motor racing. When he was no longer attached to a competing team and made it clear he wanted to remain in the paddock, it was a no brainer to offer him this role. Rob has had an incredible career as a team manager, and I am looking forward to the skill he will bring to the FVA. It's great to see him remain involved in the sport, but most importantly in a role in which suits him best at this current time." said Nic Morley It is believed the official contract start date for the technical director role for Mathershaw will begin February 1st.
