North Star Racing have announced Hector Draper as their second driver for the 2023 Formula Virtual season partnering Brock Kidd, with the vacated test and reserve role being filled by Protostars academy driver Carl Sandholm. Draper joins the grid following a stint with the K8ley team in eVirtual. The Kiwi took secured championship victory in his rookie Virtual Oceania-Asia Racing Series season, followed by three years in the Virtual World Racing Series, during which he took seven victories and a further eight podiums, including Sunday feature race victory in Macau three times in a row.
Sandholm joined the VWRS grid in 2022, finishing 15th in the overall standings, a trio of fourth-place finishes his best results. Similar to Draper, three prior seasons in the Virtual Americas Racing Series for the Swede yielded seven victories and a further eight podiums, with a championship finish of third in his final year. "Hector and Carl are two fantastic racing talents," team principal Nick Forrest told a media call earlier this afternoon, "Hector's been a winner right throughout the junior categories, and taking a championship in your rookie year is no small feat. He took the fight right to the rest of the VWRS grid in 2021, and it was only the lack of available seats that kept him off the grid last season." "Carl has likewise been a multiple time race winner up against very stiff competition, and I'm eager to see what he can do in the VWRS next season with some experience in FV machinery under his belt. We're very excited to be able to give Hector his Formula Virtual debut now, Carl a great opportunity to continue developing his own talent, and we're very much looking forward to seeing what they can deliver alongside Brock and the rest of the team."
