AMR have today confirmed that the Swiss driver Finn Schnyder will be racing alongside team newcomer and prodigy Nathaniel Powers, with Ukraine’s Dmytro Kovalenko returning to reserve and test duties for the 2023 season. AMR’s challenger, the AMR-FV-9, will be powered by Downton for the first time, with the engine deal spelling the end of a short Jaguar stint, but bringing along a champion driver. Powers, who was left stranded following Lucas’s collapse in 2022, was both optimistic and grateful to be racing again this year.
“It was a bit of a shock really,” stated the Brit. “We ended up without a job and a drive so fast. Thankfully management got things sorted. AMR have been in the frame for as long as I can remember, and I’m happy to be racing again with them!” Schnyder returns to the fray for another year, with some hopeful comments regarding the team’s work over the break. “We think we’ve got something special now,” he smiled. “The aero looks sleek and the engine is quite strong. For sure we can get some points, maybe more.” “It is nice to be with AMR again,” said Kovalenko, who is aiming to push the car through its paces in testing. “I will for sure be pushing the car. We like what we see so far.” “We strongly believe we’ve got one of the best lineups this year, and the team has hopefully aced the car design to bring what we’re seeing in the wind tunnel to the track,” said technical lead Jan Milner, who has been integral to the teams’ upward trajectory in recent times. “If everything correlates, then we think we’ve got a real chance of that first win and podium!” Adrian Arnello, the team’s exuberant leader, was his usual jovial self for the press. “Nah yeah, we’ve got something good. She’s an absolute ripper so far! Numbers are great. Just gotta hit the ground hard in testing and make sure the car agrees with the computer. Dmytro will have a good crack at it for us this time around, and yeah, lets see where it ends up!”
