Hello and welcome to the commentary for the recently announced Peugeot event this afternoon. There will be live updates from the anticipated event graced upon by media and Team Principals.
Rumours are circulating throughout the paddock that Jean Mattson has agreed to a racing deal away from Team23. The news was first leaked this morning when VirtualSport reported that Mattson had signed a high fee contract with the Peugeot F1 Team. This is not the first time that Peugeot and formerly Meteor have tried to sign Jean Mattson to the team. No representatives from Peugeot or Team23 have confirmed or denied these rumours. Peugeot have confirmed and invited Team Principals to an event at the Peugeot motorhome and whether this is to confirm the rumours of Jean Mattson or not is to be seen in the future.
It has been confirmed that Adrien Simon will drive for Liverpool Grand Prix next season. It is widely thought that this was an option of a multi year contract signed in the first season, in which he is paid based on his championship position. The deal was confirmed after the Frenchman showed race winning pace in Australia only to be thwarted by an erratic Gerard Alaniz. In the end he failed to score points, but his pace encouraged the Merseyside team to pay for early assurance of his contract.
'He's now a part of the furniture here, he was amazing in season one, and this year, even after one race we can see that he has lead the development really well. The boss made it clear to all involved that resigning Adrien was a priority, and to do so for such a reasonable sum of money, I was amazed quite frankly, but we are so pleased he agreed to stay for next year.' said Head of Finance Daniel Andersson. The rest of the team appear to enjoy working with Adrien Simon, with his style of driving giving great feedback, and also the fashion he delivers his opinion means the team are always happy to listen, something which has been noted as a contrast to current championship leader Karl Beckenbauer, who although fundamentally just as quick, was not as successful last year once the team fell back slightly in the development race. The news broke on the French TV show Grand Prix Aujourd'hui, with Simon and team boss Mathershaw interviewed on the program. Adrien said: I am excited to see what we can do next year, we will be looking for more of the same. We have a good car this season, and it is nice to be driving with the freedom that I now have because I am driving without pressure of getting a seat for next year.' It remains to be seen of course who will join Adrien Simon at Liverpool next season, but it is believed Karl Beckenbauer will need to impress even more if he is to get a drive, despite his brilliant start to the season. In addition, two other drivers are on the radar, including Elroy Wagner from the struggling Team 23 outfit, or maybe Will Hoskins of Franklin, the fact he is British will not be lost on the sponsors. Fun F1 confirmed today that their current driver Romano Agostino will drive for them in season 3 also.
The Downton F1 team have today announced that reigning World Champion Nathaniel Powers will continue with them next season.
Despite a poor showing in the opening race of the season in which he ultimately retired, Downton was said to be very keen to keep Powers on board for a second season. Virtual Grand Prix bosses and citizens of Sepang are wiping their brows in relief after the much feared tropical cyclone Kitty downgraded before hitting land and also changed course.
Kitty was downgraded to a category three before it actually hit land and even then it had changed path and the Sepang area only caught the edges of the storm. Just two days after an earthquake shook the area, the Sepang International Circuit is now in the direct path of tropical cyclone Kitty.
Kitty - which is gaining size and speed as it heads towards Malaysia - has been classified a category five storm after sustained winds of over 200km/h and gusts peaking at 293 km/h. Along with the strong winds is torrential rain that could cause further havoc in the region. The scheduled time of arrival for the storm is around 1pm BST on 8th April 2014. Not long after qualifying, an Earthquake has hit the Malaysian regions of Negeri Sembilan and Selangor, the circuit been not far from the border of these 2 Malaysian regions.
Please welcome your top three qualifiers for the Malaysian Grand Prix.
In pole position Karl Beckenbauer driving for Liverpool Grand Prix. In second Will Hoskins of the Franklin Formula One Team. And in third Enrique Ruiz, also from the Franklin Formula One Team. Liverpool look set for another strong outing in Malaysia after Karl Beckenbauer took pole position following his win in Australia. Franklin F1 were close however and both Will Hoskins and Enrique Ruiz managed to separate Beckenbauer from his teammate Adrien Simon. Meanwhile with less than a tenth separating fourth to eighth, the battle behind the top two looks closer than ever. Downton F1 team principal Bradley Downton has declared himself 'overjoyed' after his team secured fifth and ninth on the grid for the Malaysian Grand Prix.
Despite four places separating the drivers Nathaniel Powers was just under a tenth slower than teammate Marcus Thunder in a very tight qualifying session. |
