Lucas GP confirmed after the Malaysian Grand Prix yesterday that Peugeot driver Regi Abott will race for the team. He will make his appearances at the Bahrain, British and Canadian grand prix's before being replaced for the rest of the season by current Lucas GP test driver Kurtis Gardner. The deal has been made under the new Peugeot-Lucas GP partnership that was announced last week, Regi will replace driver Jonas Phipps at the team as the team boss, Lucas Wilson admitted to VirtualSport after the race that he had not been impressed: "He looked promising in the Ingram, had a couple of good quali's, but he has underperformed, I don't have anything else to say on this matter other than Phipps will be test driver from the US grand prix then will leave the team at the end of 2014" Regi Abott say's he was delighted to drive for the team: "Lucas GP is such a great, charismatic team, they love racing and are here in the sport to race, not for money. Lucas [Wilson] is a great guy and is passionate about his team. The team have had a tough 2 first GP's, but I will try to develop the car with Kurtis [Gardner] so we can fight for points and potentially podiums". As mentioned above, Kurtis will get his chance to drive for the team later on in the year, he told Neil Allenby: "Finally, I get my chance to drive in Formula 1, which is all I have wanted to do since I was a small boy watching it on TV with my dad, so I can't wait to drive the car" No statement has yet been given from Peugeot as to which of their test drivers will replace Abott for the 3 race spell.
