The Downton F1 team have today announced that reigning World Champion Nathaniel Powers will continue with them next season.
Despite a poor showing in the opening race of the season in which he ultimately retired, Downton was said to be very keen to keep Powers on board for a second season.
'In Australia he was very unlucky,' team principal Bradley Downton told us. 'He was having issues with the car all weekend and we found out after inspecting it when we got it back that it actually had a crack in it.'
'We therefore changed it for Malaysia and as you can see from Qualifying, he's already back on form. Someone of Nathaniel's ability doesn't go from front to back within a race, even in a Downton!'
'We are therefore delighted to announce that Nathaniel will be sticking around with us for a second season next year, although obviously we can't confirm any finer details yet.'
Nathaniel Powers was unavailable for comment but was quoted as saying he is 'very happy' with the deal, whatever it may be.
