The motorsport world is gearing up to welcome the new support series that will soon be rumbling into action, and the series promoter and Mathershaw Technology boss Robert Mathershaw has been working to form a calendar for each of the Touring Car Trophy, Endurance World Series and the flagship support series, the Junior Grand Prix Championship. Upon questioning, Mathershaw said about the championships: 'I am very pleased to be the promoter of these brilliant championships, and I am hoping they will become a mainstay of the F1FVGPC fans motorsport lives. The calendars we have chosen are extremely varied, and for the Junior Grand Prix we wanted to give European circuits who don't get GPC action the chance to host a top line event, also giving the drivers experience of being part of the main event. Of course, the drivers also need experience of current Grand Prix tracks, and that is what they get for most of the flyaway rounds. The Touring Car Trophy uses tracks famed for their touring car racing over the years, while the Endurance calendar is full of the most prestigious events.'
The Australian driver James Harding is set to stay with the Italian team Molto Veloce for another year after a series of impressive and consistent performances in Britain, (where he had an unfortunate brake failure) Spain (definitely his most noteworthy performance to date, only spoiled by having to make an extra pit-stop for fuel) and the most recent race in Canada.
After his performance in Spain Lucas Wilson (team boss of Lucas Wilson GP) took an interest in James Harding and started discussions with the driver about a contract for next season (2). Discussions continued with both L.W.GP and Molto Veloce for some time until Lucas Wilson pulled out having secured another contact for the next season with driver Jonas Phipps. Xaviano Grassi Owner of the Molto Veloce team Known in the F1F VWC paddock for his Dark shades and Short temper had this to say after the signing "He is Fast and consistent, This is what we need. We have no time here for messing around, so unless you are these things, forget about it." James Harding on his contract extension "For sure it is nice the have the luxury of a contract for next season this early, y'know.. the team only made the grid at the last moment this year, so i wasn't even thinking about a drive in the series , so how much they have improved the car from being last in the first race to being in a consistent points scoring position is fantastic mate. I have no doubt the team will continue to improve and yeah, once again happy to be staying." Respected and well known F1F pundit Lenny McDonald has given his views of what the driver lineups will look like next season. Lenny McDonald writes below.
After a number of announcements from several teams, LWGP has announced that it is making no changes in its technical team for 2014, all of the teams staff and technicians have been contracted for another year.
In the wake of comments made by Peugeot Grand Prix about poaching many of the best staff the championship has to offer to get results next year, Mathershaw Technology boss Robert Mathershaw felt it was now the right time to announce the technical team for 2014.
The team principal has assigned the head of aerodynamics role to his most experienced engineer, Nigel Jenkins, who has worked on numerous projects including the Mathershaw Technology Le Mans Car that was sold to Mercedes and took them to a victory in the Virtual Le Mans Series race at Paul Ricard. Mathershaw said of him 'He has been here from the very beginning of this team, with much of our success being in no small part down to him, and I am so pleased he is staying for next season. We have some amazing plans for the future, not solely in the VGPC, and I hope he is here to see them all.' Head of the team working in the drivetrain and suspension areas of the car will be Clive Wilson, who is a recent recruit after his success with Honda Yuasa racing in the VBTCC, and it is rumoured that Mathershaw will want him to be an integral part of his plans for what could be a works Chevrolet touring car program. In terms of race engineers, Adrien Simon will be managed by Cedric Dumasse, who has been a part of the winning Peugeot Le Mans team, while Karl Beckenbauer will be looked after by the experienced Dane Niklas Bachmann, who was the race engineer for Karl throughout his early career in Formula 3 and the virtual GP2 Series. Finally, in a move expected by most of the paddock, Mathershaw has said he has expanded the outfit to accomodate many new programs, starting with a touring car team, using the Chevrolet SStform for the Virtual Touring Car Championship. Jean Mattson has re-signed for Team 23, the team confirmed in a specially organized press conference ahead of the United Stated Grand Prix.
