F1FV CEO Nic Morley has confirmed that the amount of money a team will receive after a race result will be increased for 2014. In what has been highly discussed during the past week, teams are facing the difficulties of not being able to retain their current driver. Championship leaders Franklin F1 have signed Mattias Hirvonen, however yet to be confirmed what his role will be. Rival teams criticized Franklin F1 after signing a driver, later admitting money was a big factor in the signing.
Lately it has been regarded that teams just do not have the funds to hold onto their race drivers. Nic Morley however, has announced a change in the amount of money a team will recieve after each race from next season. "It has got to the stage where teams are letting their drivers go because they want to spend most of their money on the development of the car. That is understandable, but they must realize drivers play a big part in the performance. Kaz Armos brought this to light the other day that others team will not be able to hold onto their drivers. However they must also remember they will receive 25% of the funds back if they re-sign their current driver.", said Nic Morley. "I understand it though. They will also need to think about their test drivers, how many can they afford the have in the team? This is why I have increased the money that will be given to the teams depending on their race finishing position. So in theory a team can now sign both their drivers and maybe one or two test drivers, but will be in debt by the start of next season. However as races go by their bank balance will move back into the green, as they will win money depending on their race finishing position", continued Nic Morley. "Clearly if a team is in debt they can not develop their car. Though hopefully now with some time and patience they will get out of debt and make further progress. My main hope, like many fans of the series; is that teams do not sacrifice money over driver skill. If a team is in debt, its not the end of the world. This is why I have made these changes", finished Nic Morley. Race winnings from the start of 2014: (funds are won by each driver that is then forwarded to the team) 1st: £500,000 2nd - £3rd: 450,000 4th - £6th: 400,000 7th - £8th: 350,000 9th - £10th: 300,000 11th - £14th: 200,000 15th - £18th: 100,000 19th - £24th: 50,000 DNF: £0 Finishing positions in races are much more important next season.
