With the first race into the new 2024 regulations and the new cars, we saw some exciting battles and struggling champions. Who got the most out of their position and who lost a potential result? Here are the winners and losers from the Australian V-Prix: Winner – Enzo Domenicalli Without a doubt, the Italian team surprised everyone on Friday after Beyer and Domenicalli managed to get the new Lamborghini into the top 4 with both cars. While Beyer managed to lead in a comfortable gap at the start of the race, but later retired unfortunately, Enzo managed to achieve a maiden podium for the Italians and his first podium in 9 years. A truly remarkable performance! Loser – Klaas van Snelheid To be the reigning champion comes with a lot of pressure from outside of the paddock. The new Downton is fast, but maybe doesn’t fit Klaas’ driving style as we saw a struggling KvS throughout the weekend. He never managed to pick up the speed, was outqualified and outraced by his teammate and looked not very happy with his performance on interviews after the race – understandable! Downton and KvS have to find a way to get comfortable with the package, otherwise this could be a difficult season to fight for back to back titles. Winner – Will Taylor Phoenix looked not that great coming into this race weekend, especially Will Taylor who was outqualified by a shocking 9 places, but only three tenths. Adelaide is not known for overtake-friendly races. Even more remarkable that Phoenix and Taylor got the most out of this race and even more. 4th place with a superb strategy and racecraft from Taylor! Loser – Ocelot What many fans feared is now reality: The good looking Ocelot from last year is history, a complete failure in terms of car performance let the team sit in 12th place now after the race. Giodano and Cesar didn’t look like they could do anything to race for points. The Japanese team has to hope for in-season developments to jump up the grid. Winner – FIRST
What looked like a disaster for the americans in qualifying got to a remarkable performance in the race with more points in the season opener than FIRST got in the whole last season. With superstar Enrique Ruiz and former Ocelot and Kowhai driver Hunter Ryan, they managed to do a superb job to gain 31 positions as a team. The biggest winner of this race!
