Just seven days after taking pole position at the famous Brickyard, Klaas van Snelheid has followed up with another pole position for tomorrows Canadian V-Prix, the first time in the Dutchman's career he has taken consecutive pole positions. van Snelheid denied the Mathershaw Porsche pair a front row lockout - Enriquer Ruiz lines up second ahead of Adrien Simon - while Nathaniel Powers struggled to hook a lap up and ended up slowest of the top three teams in sixth. Q1Franklin have made no secret of their disappointment at slipping into Q1 this weekend following an unfortunate retirement from a strong position for Enzo Domenicalli at Indianapolis, but handled the session as professionally and expertly as anyone expected, getting both cars immediately on track to get banker laps in. The Arrow duo initially lapped quicker however, but from the off it was clear those two teams had the measure of AMR and Meteor, who were both some four tenths adrift. Times changed towards the end of the session however as the two Franklins went to the top of the times - split by just five thousandths of a second in the favour of Nick Addison. Yakumi Takahashi also improved - ending up just over two hundredths of a second off the ultimate pace - but an error for Lewis Ellington on his final lap put him at risk. Dmytro Kovalenko unlocked surprise pace in his AMR on the final run and was quicker in both of the first two sectors, but an untidy run through the final chicane cost him, and Ellington kept his place on the grid by just three thousandths of a second. See below for full Q1 classification: Q2After a disappointing day last time out, Mathershaw Porsche were keen to make amends - and came out of the traps flying, immediately re-asserting their early season dominance and taking the top two fastest times, with Adrien Simon leading Enrique Ruiz. Klaas van Snelheid slotted comfortably into third ahead of the FIRST pair, but a lacklustre run from Nathaniel Powers left him some five tenths adrift of the top five, and even behind a stellar first lap from Sergio Alvarez. Times improved gradually as the session ran on without incident however, with first Ruiz displacing his team mate at the top of the standings and then van Snelheid hooking up what looked a very strong lap to go a tenth quicker - and secure what would ultimately prove to be pole position. Felix Perez lapped just thirteenth thousandths of a second quicker than team mate Will Hoskins to pip him to the second row right at the end - but was around a tenth and a half shy of Simon - while Powers' second run was faster, but still not enough to get him any higher than sixth, albeit only one hundredth shy of Hoskins. Following in the wheeltracks of van Snelheid, Vasquez also hooked up his final run to slot his Ingram into the 'best of the rest' position with seventh, just ahead of Sergio Alvarez, who continues to impress for Phoenix. The Westwood duo of Puccio Giodano and Karl Beckenbauer completed the top ten, while a much improved qualifying session for Lopez sees them occupy row six, with Allar Kangur just seeing off team mate Elroy Wagner. Carson Davenport showed improved form in the Lucas with thirteenth, but the same couldn't be said for North Star. The British outfit - who famously won this race three years ago against the mighty Downton BD05 - have struggled for pace all weekend, and even star man Johan Halvosen could only muster seventeenth on the grid, with team mate Gabriele Garcia in 21st. Jean Mattson was also brought back to down earth after his maiden Ingram podium last time out as he lines up down in sixteenth. Having fought through Q1, Franklin and Arrow struggled to get much further up the field and looked set to occupy rows eleven and twelve until a final effort from Addison put him clear of Garcia. Behind though, Cheema were left scratching their heads. Having taken their first points of the season last time out, they arrived in Canada with confidence, but both drivers reported the handling of their cars had got much worse from practice yesterday, and as a result they will occupy the back row of the grid tomorrow.
