Klaas van Snelheid has topped practice for the South African V-Prix, lapping over a quarter of a second faster than any of his rivals. Nick Addison was the Dutchman's closest competitor, with Felix Perez, Enrique Ruiz and Allar Kangur ensuring the top five teams all had one car within the top five. As expected on the narrow confines of the revamped Kyalami circuit however, traffic proved an issue from the off. It took Perez until the closing five minutes to find himself clear air, something Nathaniel Powers failed to achieve all session, finding himself down in 16th. Behind the top five were Danilo Forini, Will Hoskins, Elroy Wagner and Adrien Simon, while Puccio Giodano completed the top ten for Ocelot ahead of Lucas' Marcus Thunder, the two teams hanging onto the coat tails of the five front-runners. Johan Halvosen gave North Star encouragement of improvement with twelfth ahead of the Ingram duo, with Finn Schnyder - fresh from his first points finish in three years - also lapped quicker than the impeded Powers. Just behind, Max Meyer and Jules Barclay were the last cars within a second of the fastest time, though both Barclay and team mate Tumo Kinnumen - who lapped just fractions slower - will start from the back row after Westwood missed the strategy deadline. Hunter Ryan and Maximilian Thunstrom also struggled with traffic - both half a second slower than their respective team mates - while Phoenix were brought back down to earth after the heady heights of their points in Australia, featuring towards the bottom of the time sheets.
