As Formula Virtual heads to the land of the rising sun, it was the Downton Duo of Klaas van Snelheid and Nathaniel Powers who stamped their authority on Friday's running, over a tenth and a half clear of the rest of the field. Both drivers looked quick throughout the session, with Powers maintaining a slight advantage until the dying moments, when the Dutchman put in a stellar effort on his final lap of the day to edge out the three-time world champion by just one hundredth of a second. Adrien Simon ended the session 3rd, with championship leader Enrique Ruiz in fourth. Felix Pérez finished the day a fine 5th for FIRST, splitting the Franklin pair, Tumo Kinnumen just over a tenth back from Ruiz. Johan Halvosen also showed well for North Star in 7th, albeit some four tenths back from Kinnumen. A brief off-track excursion for Allar Kangur on his fast lap meant the Estonian could only manage 8th, over seven tenths away from his teammate, and barely ahead of Oleksandr Zozulya, while Jean Mattson gave Ingram cause for positivity this weekend by finishing the session in the top ten. However, the rest of the field was anybody's guess, with nineteen cars being separated by less than half a second as the session came to a close. Sergio Álvarez recovered well from an electrical failure that brought out the yellow flags to end the day 14th, and Finn Schnyder also impressed in his AMR. After failing to qualify in Australia, the Swiss driver delivered a time good enough for 18th. But it would not be smooth sailing for all: traffic frustrated both James Vasquez and Gabriele García during their fast laps, while Thierry Xylander suffered the same stoppage as his teammate with half an hour to go, and would not return to the track. In the battle of the new teams, Rodolfo de la Fuente emerged on top for Andromeda, fractionally ahead of the Cheema of Carson Davenport. The Excelsior pair, meanwhile, were only spared from propping up the timesheets by the Lucas of Arden Hutchinson. Full practice classification can be seen below.
