The Westwood team gathered at the Botniaring this afternoon to wish a farewell to Tumo Kinnumen, who retired at the end of the 2023 season. Tumo Kinnumen is the most experienced driver in the history of Formula Virtual. Having competed in the series since its inception, when it was known as the F1Fanatic Virtual Grand Prix Challenge (F1FVGPC). His career has been varied with many highs and lows. From debuting with FUN, to achieving his and Westwood's first podium at the brickyard in 2014. And his only two race victories the following year, before eventually moving away from Westwood for a short while. The veteran eventually ended his career at his old outfit, returning to the team in their second year after returning. Harry Westwood took the opportunity to speak on his long time driver and friend. "Well, where to start? As soon as I saw him drive I was interested, way back when. And then when we got on well in the paddock, it was a done deal! Tumo has seen this team at its absolute best and at its worst. Yes he took our first podium and our first win, but he's also been so much more than that. He's been a core part of the team, and he's been a true friend in this sport and in personal lives. There's not a single person in his garage that ever had a bad word to say about him. Luckily for us, Tumo will be sticking around the team in a role to aid these younger drivers in their development, and to help keep the team on the right track. But, it is still farewell in a way - he's not going to be around all the time like he used to. So Tumo, thank you so much. From the bottom of our hearts, you've done more for this team than you know and can ever be said with words. So, hopefully some actions will help instead - have a blast in this special livery we've made for you, one last runout for you at home!" Harry Westwood then gestured to the side, as some mechanics wheeled Tumo's 2023 car out, with a colourful tribute. Tumo was clearly emotional, so emotional in fact that he had this to say. "Thanks guys. I'll miss you." And with a slight twitch of the corner of his mouth, almost resembling a grin, he donned his helmet and climbed into the car to have one last blast. And so Tumo drove his last FV car until the fuel ran out halfway around the circuit. He appeared to linger in the car for a few minutes, possibly reflecting on a lengthy and successful career. Eventually, he got out, and some mechanics made their way over to help get the car back to the pits. Harry was seen telling Tumo to keep the car, and the two shared a long embrace. Farewell, Tumo.
