The 21 year old from Belgium has been officially announced as part of the JFPT Franklin line-up for 2022. After just one race in the season, a season in which Xylander has yet to complete a racing lap, the Belgian driver has been announced as joining the triple world Champions for the 2022 season.
Thierry, who first made his appearance in Formula Virtual in 2018 with DS Automobiles Team Mathershaw as their reserve driver, has had eyes on him for quite some time, becoming the fourth youngest driver to start a race when he raced for Ecotricity DS Automobiles Team Phoenix in 2019. Since then, the youngster hasn't quite been able to get the better of his slightly more experienced and older team mate in Sergio Alvarez, especially after suffering torrid bad luck in the 2020 season. Franklin, however, seem confident that they can unlock the latent potential in the Belgian, and hope to turn his fortunes around for the future. "Thierry is someone that we've kept a close eye on since his debut in the sport. Obviously there was a time where we weren't going to be around long enough to consider having him under the Franklin umbrella, but a lot has changed since then. Thierry is a former Mathershaw young driver, and that in itself speaks volumes about the calibre of driver that Thierry could be, and validates our own thoughts about what he could bring to the table. In the junior categories, he's fended off many of the younger talents coming through, in the likes of Zvironas, Meyer and Brynildsen, and has a couple few years of FV experience under his belt, whilst being only 21. We fully believe that he has laid the ground work to be a star of the future, and much like our work with Danilo, we fully believe we can extract the maximum out of him," The former world champions are yet to make an announcement as to whether this signing will result in a race seat, or whether Nick Addison and Danilo Forini will continue in those roles for next year.
