Andae d'Hazorme, team principal of Team 23-Cosworth, claims to have found a feature on Franklin F1's JF-01 chassis that does not comply with the technical regulations. According to a statement issued by Team 23, the Franklin-Honda features a system that can automatically change the steering wheel's linearity without changing the steering wheel angle. Team 23 provided photographic evidence in the form of two onboard shots, taken during the French Grand Prix. d'Hazorme: "As you can see in the picture, the steering wheel has the same angle in both cases, but the angle in which the wheels are tilted is different in both cases. Hence there must be an electronically controlled Adaptive Steering System installed in the car's ECU."
An Adaptive Steering System, or ASS for short, is strictly forbidden by the technical regulations, according to article 5:9.2b (or not to be): "The steering response must stay constant throughout the entire season". If Team 23's findings are correct, the consequences for Franklin F1 could be in the range from washing the technical working group's cars to exclusion from the Constructors' Championship. d'Hazorme: "We have sent a report to the sport's governing body, VFIA, and hope for clarification on Franklin's ASS."
