Adrien Simon and Nathaniel Powers spent the entire free practice session trading times at the head of the leader board, and it was the defending world champion who eventually came out on top to end up fastest in practice ahead of the Turkish V-Prix. Simon and Powers determination to beat the other put them comfortably clear of the field, with Powers ending up a tenth off the pace while third placed Tumo Kinnumen was over seven tenths down. The top two were also the only drivers to break the 91-second barrier.
Allar Kangur proved the DS Mathershaw pace appears to have returned after going missing last time out in Portugal as he went a strong fourth fastest ahead of championship leader Klaas van Snelheid and Westwood's Finn Schnyder, as the top three teams in the championship filled the top six places. The Franklin's and Holmqvist's came next completing the top ten, while at North Star Gabriele Garcia was running in place of Karl Beckenbauer, and ended up eleventh ahead of Judson Sikes by two tenths of a second. It's not unusual to see the FIRST of Arden Hutchinson lacking in practice, but the American team were left scratching their heads when both cars ended up outside the top twelve, while solid pace from Elroy Wagner saw the Lopez driver fourteenth fastest. It wasn't such a good day for his team mate however. Persistent gearbox problems left James Harding to complete just a sole installation lap at incredibly slow speed and without a time at the bottom of the leader board.
