After the German Grand Prix, Mathershaw Technology had mixed feelings about the result - Adrien Simon had scored another podium, showing his position in 3rd in the championship is something deserved, however there were some eyebrows raised when he twice collided with his team mate Karl Beckenbauer, the first time causing very minor damage to the rear wing of the German, before spinning him at the same spot soon after, costing him a podium at his home race.
After the incident, it has been revealed that team radio between Beckenbauer and race engineer Niklas Bachmann contained some strong language, and stated in no uncertain terms that Mathershaw needed to have some words with the Frenchman. Mathershaw did indeed speak out after the race, saying 'I am happy with Simon and his performance today, however I am slightly disappointed with his attempts to overtake Karl, eventually ruining his race for a podium. However, if they both are in contention, I will not be too concerned if they are in close quarters again, as I am sure they both have learned from this experience. One thing I will say though, if anything happens like that again, I will have no hesitation in promoting Jamie from the Junior team pending approval from Nic and the governing body. As such, I am in consultation to get a chance to make him test driver while in the IJGPC at the moment' Adrien Simon immediately after the race apologised for his actions, and the two drivers were seen sharing a laugh shortly after the race.
