eVirtual driver Will Taylor is set to make his Formula Virtual debut in 2022, it has today been confirmed. The British driver, who also competed in the now-defunct IndyVirtual series, has been signed by Royal Phoenix Motorsport for next season and will make his Formula Virtual debut at the age of 30. “Losing both our drivers always meant we’d be facing a huge challenge, heading into next season,” said Alex Easton. “We have thought long and hard about this decision and, following a lengthy selection process, we have decided that Will is the right driver – and person – to join us for 2022. We are very much looking forward to welcoming him to Phoenix Motorsport. We have close links with the Jaguar team over in eVirtual, with Callum [Brandon] there as Team Principal. Will’s done a great job for them so far and was equally as impressive in IndyVirtual. We’ve already seen drivers like Kidd, Addison and Takahashi making the transition from eVirtual to FV, so we’ve every faith in Will to make the leap just as well as they have. Despite never racing in Formula Virtual until now, he brings a wealth of Virtual Motorsport experience with him and is someone who we see as a very sensible replacement for our outgoing pair.” Taylor began his career in the inaugural FV2 series season, in 2013, entering the final four rounds with the British Engineering outfit. He then spent the next three seasons in VWRS with Needell Grand Prix, Johnstone Race Engineering, then finally Formation Competition in 2016. His time in VWRS yielded three wins and a total of nine podiums; finishing in fourteenth in his debut season before back to back ninth places. At the end of 2016 – with Taylor’s time in VWRS at an end and no sign of a step up to Formula Virtual – the Brit got a lucky break with the formation of IndyVirtual. He drove for American team Rodeo Racing, as a single car entry, for the duration of the series before it was scrapped for 2019; leaving Taylor out of a drive. After a year out, Taylor was signed to eVirtual team Ecotricity Jaguar EV Racing for the inaugural eVirtual World Championship in 2020. He had a strong debut year in which he won a race and scored a further two podiums on his way to third in the Drivers’ World Championship; helping his team finish second to Downton by just three points. For the upcoming 2021 eVirtual World Championship, Taylor has been retained by Jaguar and will be looking to back up his impressive 2020 campaign with another strong finish, before making his Formula Virtual debut next year.
