Struggling Formula Virtual team BMPS Scuderia Meteor are not only having a hard time on track but are also embroiled in a legal battle with former driver Mario Juan Lopez, it has emerged. Back in 2019, original team owner Kazuki Armos sold the team to Italian businessman Piercarlo Caliri who immediately brought in Shane O’Connell as team principal, and installed his son, Guido, as deputy team principal. Jules Simon was replaced by Lewis Ellington, who immediately took the fight to the top teams in a car that had previously been rooted in the midfield. In the other car, Mario Juan Lopez kept his seat for the rest of the season, but it has since emerged that the Argentine suffered from the team prioritising Ellington with setups, spare parts, and even crew members. Lopez spoke to the press after the initial hearing: “I can’t say much. The process is ongoing right now so I won’t talk much until we’re done. What I can say, what is already known, is that they neglected me within the team and gave me fewer opportunities than Ellington. Also, they promised me that my race for 2020 would be safe if I met the conditions. These conditions were met but I was unfairly fired.” No statement has been released from the side of Scuderia Meteor but the future of this once respectable team may hang on this ongoing story.
