Enrique Ruiz has taken pole position for the third time this season ahead of team mate Adrien Simon, but Downton's Klaas van Snelheid was close to interrupting the Mathershaw Porsche day, until a spin late in his lap put paid to his efforts. As a result; Nathaniel Powers was the duos closest challenger with no other driver able to get within four tenths of the pole time, and van Snelheid ending up down in sixth. Q1Determined not to suffer the same fate that befell them in Australia, Cheema sent both cars out immediately in order to get some banker laps in. The tactics worked. Nikolai Milkovich ended the session fastest with team mate Tumo Kinnumen also making the grid; albeit just squeaking through in fourth. Between them; Puccio Giodano became the only driver to clear Q1 in the four opening races with second quickest; while a time just a tenth off that of Milkovich was enough to see Yakumi Takahashi make the grid for the second time in two races for Arrow. Team mate Lewis Ellington was a tenth off the top four in fifth, ahead of Karl Beckenbauer. The German - and only previous race winner here in South Africa - found traffic on every qualifying lap and therefore failed to make the race for the time in 2020, while the AMR duo ended up firmly in the slowest two spots. See below for full Q1 classification: Q2After his incident early in the session yesterday, Enzo Domenicalli was the first man on track - the Italian keen to get some running in before tomorrow's race. Unsurprisingly, the Franklin mans time was swiftly beaten as the rest of the field set their first times; with Enrique Ruiz and Adrien Simon settling into an unsurprising 1-2, split by just over half a tenth. From the initial laps, very little changed in terms of the order. Nathaniel Powers cut the gap from himself to Simon in half to just a tenth, before the Frenchman improved by a mere twelve thousands to close the gap to team mate Ruiz. None of the Brazilians following laps were a match for his opener however, but behind him the timing screens lit up in purple, as Klaas van Snelheid found his feet. The Dutchman was sat in fifth - behind Will Hoskins - but purple in the opening sector and green in sector two looked set to put him on the front row, splitting the Mathershaw Porsche cars. van Snelheid failed to keep his composure however, and pushed too hard into the chicane at the end of the lap, took too much kerb, and spun - throwing away any chance of a better position as the chequered flag fell. To make matters worse, Johan Halvosen found time on his final lap - and demoted the Downton youngster to sixth by just four thousandths of a second. Elroy Wagner, Felix Perez and Hunter Ryan rounded out the top nine, while for the second race in a row tenth was held by a shock qualifier. Giani Ledesma set the lap time of his career to put his Meteor inside the top ten ahead of Allar Kangur, with beaming smiles filling the Italian outfits garage after the session. Further back; there were season best performances from Tumo Kinnumen, Thierry Xylander and Nick Addison - the Australian managing a fantastic nineteenth for Franklin - but James Vasquez and Dominykas Zvironas struggled. Both drivers got caught up in traffic throughout the session, and ended up a miserable 24th and 25th respectively. See below for full Q2 classification, and grid for the race:
