XXX Energy Phoenix Motorsport have detailed a slight shuffle in the team, with immediate effect. Phoenix’s Technical Director - Christian Sear – has been announced as the team’s first ever Deputy Team Principal. Team Principal Alex Easton: “Chris probably isn’t a very familiar face in the paddock as he tends to keep a low profile and just keep himself to himself really, definitely not one to go blowing the trumpet when we get an eleventh place or anything like that. But it was together with him that Phoenix Motorsport was founded way back in late 2014 – initially with the goal to provide a pathway for young British talent in Formula Virtual’s feeder series’. This goal, of course, changed slightly when we made the step up to the top level of Virtual Motorsport however we have stayed true to our word; providing our current drivers Sergio and Thierry their first opportunity in FV, as well as the three young drivers currently in our academy. Anyway, to get back to Christian; it is in the best interests for Phoenix for him to take on the role of Deputy Team Principal beginning with immediate effect. He will still remain in his role as Technical Director but will devote much more of his time to the actual management side of the team. Off the top of my head; we’ve seen Deputy Team Principals before in Formula Virtual with Andae at Downton, that Igor guy who was almost involved with Franklin and Cory joining Meteor briefly, in fact Scuderia Meteor have one now don’t they? So yeah Chris won’t be the first, or last, but he’s a great guy and I hope his new role will enable him to interact a lot more with the paddock and give him some great experience for the future.” Deputy Team Principal/Technical Director Christian Sear: “I’m excited for this. Management isn’t something I’d ever thought about until recently, it’s always been Alex doing the media stuff and all that while I just got on with my work behind the scenes. It should be good.” In addition to the slight change in the Phoenix management team, various sources have reported on a possible third stint at the Mancunian team for ex-driver Dominic Hanson – after his Triumph Dolomite was seen parked at their base. So far, this remains purely a rumour, however Hanson is known to have kept his ties with the team intact following his departure – for the second time – back at the end of 2017.
