In an official statement, without any prior build-up, Lucas V-Prix announced their driver line-up for 2022. Maximilian Thunstrom, who gave Lucas their first win in nearly 8 years, retains his seat at the purple outfit. Gone however is Marcus Thunder. In his place will be the current World Champion Nathaniel Powers. The 5-time World Champion had previously acknowledged leaving Downton earlier in the year. There was widespread speculation about where he would end up. It seems that the stars aligned for Lucas Wilson's eponymous team to snatch up the 5-time World Champion in what many people view as the biggest coup in Formula Virtual History.
Here is Nathaniel Powers statement: "I am so pleased to be partnering with Lucas V-Prix for 2022. They have really shown this year, I think, that they have championship potential. Me and Lucas have been on good terms for some years now. When I spoke to Bradley about wanting a new challenge he was more than happy to point me in the direction of Mr. Wilson. I first visited the factory last week and met everyone for the first time. I see a lot of potential in this team and I'm really happy where I am at the moment. I've just won the World Championship and I hope to do it again in purple as well!" Here's Maximilian Thunstrom's statement: "For sure, I am super grateful to stay with the Lucas team for 2022. I really enjoyed the car this year and I got the first win for me. The first win for the team in quite a while. So I hope to continue our progress and be on the top step of the podium even more." Finally here's a statement from Team Owner, Lucas Wilson: "To say I am happy is an understatement! We are so grateful that Powers has decided to join our team. He's a tour de force in Formula Virtual and we see this as being the start of a very beneficial partnership between us. We had a great year, way beyond our expectations. Getting that win was such an amazing experience. We have had guys there who remember our first win, but that was a while ago! So I think we've got some momentum to make even more progress. And with a driver like Powers I'm sure we will be able to meet that benchmark."
