Nathaniel Powers was fastest in practice for this weekends Spanish V-Prix, but the big story was the number of surprises in the order behind him.
Powers was the only driver to lap under 82 seconds, with Oleksandr Zozulya for FIRST his surprise closest competitor, three tenths behind. Adrien Simon and Klaas van Snelheid were third and fourth, ahead of the returning Lewis Ellington, who was a brilliant fifth fastest for Holmqvist, while new team mate Kiara Thunder could only manage sixteenth.
Meanwhile behind him was arguably the biggest shock, as Johan Halvosen put his Meteor sixth fastest. The team who finished runner-up in the championship last season have struggled so far this year with no points scored to date, though Halvosen's time will make them hopeful of their first score of the season this weekend.
The Westwood and Franklin pairs nearly rounded out the top ten, but Enrique Ruiz was just beaten to tenth by Will Hoskins, in a strong showing for AMR after a disappointing race last time out in France. Meanwhile Diego Campos was 22nd on the first of his two races this season, three positions and half a second behind Jean Mattson.
