On the eve of the 2019 Mexican V-Prix, Downton have announced both Nathaniel Powers and Klaas van Snelheid will remain with the team in 2020, the duo entering their fourth year together as team mates. Following the teams recent incident-filled Belgian V-Prix, there were questions marks as to whether both drivers would be retained, further fuelled by rumours Matteo Zetticci was on for a rapid promotion straight to race driver after just one season in VWRS.
The team announced last week however that the Italian would be their reserve driver for 2020, and have today confirmed in a short statement that Powers and van Snelheid will be paired together once again. "The Downton FV Team would like to take this opportunity to announce that our race drivers for the 2020 Formula Virtual World Championship will once again be Nathaniel Powers and Klaas van Snelheid. The pair have achieved tremendous success already as team mates in their three seasons together, and we look forward to creating more next season." While no further communication came from the team, team principal Bradley Downton commented to the press: "We're delighted that both drivers are sticking around, they're a quality pairing and actually get on really well. There were some tensions after Belgium. I was angry, the team was angry, and then the drivers were angry with themselves. But everyone makes mistakes, and we move on. Our aim is to clinch the Championship here, and then look to defend it next season."
