This morning, at a media event, Phoenix Motorsport added their name to the list of teams to reveal their livery for the forthcoming 2020 Formula Virtual World Championship season. The demo run, which took place at the Oulton Park circuit, allowed reserve driver James Thompson to show off Phoenix’s new livery for the 2020 season – albeit on the PX2, as the PX3 is not yet ready. The base livery sticks to the colours and design that have started to become synonymous with the team, however features a total overhaul of sponsors and technical partnerships; following the mass exodus of the team’s previous sponsors during their financial troubles at the end of 2019. The two most notable additions are new title sponsor XXX Energy – whose presence is felt heavily throughout the livery – and Wilson Oils; the oil company owned by Lucas V-Prix owner, Team Principal, and Phoenix shareholder Lucas Wilson. Wilson Oils' new green sub brand ‘Wilson Oils EcoPlus’ is a prominent addition to the car, featuring on the side pods. The air box too is another noticeable change, taking on the typical ‘Lucas purple’ colour. Other sponsorship additions come in the form of; Platinum Estate, V Foods, Flame, Vibrant Boards, T&T Welding, TMF Advisory and PH03NIX Cars; who apparently bear no relation to the team itself and whose rather quirky logo is seen on the back of the rear wing. STOP-Tech and Crown Logistics have also joined - as technical partners - and Phoenix’s new engine supply from Downton results in the Downton engines logo appearing. Phoenix Motorsport Team Principal Alex Easton: “It’s great to be watching a car out on track again, Brazil seems like such a long time ago even though it’s been a relatively short winter break. Today has been a great event for everyone involved and it’s been nice to see a few people turn out to watch. Although I suppose they could’ve just been friends and family of our guys… Sergio and Thierry aren’t here today as both are working hard to be in peak shape for the season, so they tell me anyway! It’s unfortunate that we weren’t able to use the PX3 here today but it simply could not be done. The guys back at the factory have been working themselves into the ground but the timeframe to get the bugger ready was just so tiny. I shouldn’t really complain as, without the deals with Lucas and XXX, we wouldn’t even be here! But, of course, as soon as the future of the team is secure all of the competitiveness comes back and you just want to get cracking with everything and see where you are in relation to everyone else, but it is what it is. It’s gonna be tight but we should be able to get the new car to testing.” Phoenix Motorsport reserve driver James Thompson: “I loved being back in the car, even when it’s just for a day like today it’s always an absolute thrill to drive one of these things – especially around a great circuit like this one where I came so many times as a kid, I actually did some jousting here once! I’m really pleased to see the new livery too; I think it looks amazing and it’s a good sign that we’ve got a load of new companies on there willing to link up with Phoenix.” Following the event, the team revealed some official pictures of their new livery; which can be found below:
