As previously announced via their social media, Formula Virtual team Royal Phoenix Motorsport will be running a special one-off livery at the South African V-Prix to celebrate World Bee Day. World Bee Day is a global celebration of bees and the vital role they play within our ecosystem. It is held on the 20th May, to coincide with the birth date of Slevenian beekeeper Anton Janša; one of the pioneers of modern beekeeping. Of course, Formula Virtual was on temporary hiatus during this time which is why Phoenix are celebrating slightly later than usual this weekend. “It’s fantastic to be able to run a special livery to celebrate such a great cause,” said Phoenix Team Principal Alex Easton. “We’re very grateful to Nic and the FVA for allowing us to do so. I believe this is the second time in our history that we’ve ran a special livery – after we had the ‘Golden Phoenix’ for FV100 in Belgium 2018 – but this time it’s obviously a very different occasion.” “As well as clear changes to the colour scheme, we’ve added ‘World Bee Day’ to the front wing, with the Bumblebee Conservation Trust on the rear wing. The Bumblebee Conservation Trust are a fantastic British charity who monitor and conserve many different species of bumblebee in the UK. People often see colonies of honey bees thriving and – understandably – wonder what all the fuss is about on the news with declining bee populations, but it’s the bumblebees that are struggling. It is the bumblebee species that are amongst the best pollinators of all, yet have rapidly declined over the last century due to – mainly – the way we produce food and care for our countryside. I could stand here going on about it all day as it’s a real passion of mine but I won’t, instead I’ll just say I hope everyone enjoys the striking livery and – most importantly – appreciates what it represents!” For further information on the conservation of bumblebees, visit www.bumblebeeconservation.org.
