This morning, news broke out that the Phoenix Formula Virtual team will end their partnership with DS Automobiles at the end of the 2019 season, after just one year with the French manufacturer. The announcement comes two weeks after Mathershaw Technology announced their split from DS. The British outfit have had relative success with DS power so far this season; achieving their best finish of seventh at the Malaysian V-Prix which they then equalled at the Spanish V-Prix three races later, leaving them on fourteen points after seven races, compared to last season where the then Judd powered team scored nineteen points across the whole season. Team principal Alex Easton confirmed the news; “I can confirm we will be ending our partnership with DS Automobiles at the end of this season. I have nothing but praise for everyone at DS and the engine they have supplied us with, but ultimately – especially after Mathershaw leaving for pastures new – our visions were very different for the future. Further details regarding 2020 and beyond will be revealed in due course. However, until the chequered flag falls in Brazil, we remain DS Phoenix and wear the DS Automobiles badge with pride.” Rumours have already started circling as to where Phoenix will turn to for engine supply, with a surprising return to Judd being suggested. We contacted DS Automobiles but did not get a response.
