As Formula Virtual approaches the series’ first ever race in Detroit, Royal Phoenix Motorsport have announced their driver line up for 2023. Phoenix today became the sixth team to announce their full line up for 2023 after Porsche, Scuderia Maserati, SRT, Peugeot Westwood, and Downton. As the paddock set up at the Detroit Street Circuit, Phoenix released their announcement to the press. “It is with great pleasure that we can now officially confirm our full driver line up for the 2023 Formula Virtual World Championship. Will Taylor will drive the number 41 Phoenix having signed a new contract to remain with us for another year! Alongside Will will be the recently crowned VWRS Champion, Ott Eskola. Ott has signed a three-year deal until the end of 2025.” British driver Will Taylor joined Phoenix at the start of the current season as the Mancunian team endured a minor crisis in the driver department, with both Sergio Alvarez and Thierry Xylander being poached from Phoenix for 2022. Taylor was expected to struggle slightly compared to his highly rated teammate, Allar Kangur, but hit the ground running and has so far finished on the podium three times including Malaysia; Phoenix’s first ever podium in Formula Virtual. The 31-year-old finds himself ahead of Kangur by six points with three races remaining and now knows he has done enough to secure another season in Formula Virtual with Phoenix. “I’m thrilled to be able to say I’ll be on the FV grid again in 2023,” said Taylor. “This season so far has easily been the best year of my life, battling with some of the all-time greats of this sport towards the front of the field has been an incredible experience and I hope we can continue that into next season.” Eskola, who is with the team in Detroit this weekend before travelling to Macau for the VWRS finale next week, has won the VWRS title at a canter in his second season in Tier Two. He has finished on the podium in every race he’s finished and currently has a lead of 136 points over his nearest rival; Henri Ruotsalainen. When asked about his promotion to Formula Virtual for 2023, Eskola said: “I’m looking forward to joining Phoenix in FV after three years in The Hive. Should be good.” “Will has been incredible for us this year,” said Team Principal Alex Easton. “We expected him to be solid but he’s shone, I think the PX5 has really suited his driving style so hopefully he can keep that form up throughout 2023. As for Ott, we’re all so excited to see him in the car in pre-season testing. The lad’s only 19 and already has two junior series titles under his belt, I’m sure he’ll show the world what he’s made of at the top level next year.”
