Welcome once more to the series where I run out of ways to explain the fact that I'm grading every team in FV on how they've performed in the first half of this 2020 season! It's time to get into it and look at how Lopez have done so far. Best Qualifying - 4th (Malaysian V-Prix)
Best Finish - 1st (Japanese V-Prix) Points - 61 Current Championship Position - 4th Overall Grade - B- Lopez have certainly gained a reputation as a team who like to start their season strong, and 2020 has been no exception. They kicked things off with a win in the opening round in Japan thanks to an excellent strategy call and at the halfway point find themselves best of the rest behind the top three. Given their typical pattern of dropping off the pace throughout the season, they have done exceptionally well to hold their position. While their pace is certainly following their typical pattern, former Mathershaw driver Allar Kangur seems to have brought with him a new sense of consistency on track that the team previously weren't as able to rely on; scoring 51 of the team's total of 61 points, and claiming their maiden victory. No mean feat, up against former world champion Elroy Wagner, who has only scored points twice this season. While they are definitely losing touch with their rivals North Star and Ocelot on raw pace, they are still getting themselves into strong, points scoring positions and mounting a serious challenge to stay in the top five. The second half of their season will likely be a lot more difficult for them based on their previous seasons and the drop off in pace they typically suffer in comparison to their rivals. However, at this point in the season, it's hard to fault them on their performance.
