Welcome once again to the mid season report cards series! We're finally into the top three, which means we'll be breaking down the performance of FIRST! Best Qualifying - 2nd (French V-Prix)
Best Finish - 1st (British V-Prix) Points - 177 Current Championship Position - 3rd Overall Grade - A For me, there was no deliberation over the grade FIRST would receive for their mid season performance review. They have been consistently the best behind heavy hitters Downton and Mathershaw, and occasionally looked capable of challenging them on raw pace. This American team, with the exception of 2018, has been on a solid upward curve since their debut in 2016. They have done excellently to procure both experience and talent in their lineup, consisting of Will Hoskins (runner up to the driver's championship in 2014) and Felix Perez. The car has looked solid at every event in the opening half of this 2020 season, which combined with strategy and some poor luck on the part of Porsche Team Mathershaw, resulted in a maiden victory for the team. They have displayed that they are ready to join the fight with the big boys in rather exceptional fashion, keeping Downton honest even on bad days. A perfect example of how any team can make their way to the front, and an inspiration not only to aspiring teams across the globe, but particularly in America which has seen little representation in FV thus far. I do expect them to lose ground to Mathershaw and Downton in the second half of the season, but so far in 2020 they have been impeccable, and almost certainly guaranteed themselves a third place finish in the constructor's championship.
