In a startling turn of events, the Lopez FV Team has surprised everybody by announcing one of the most unexpected driver signings for the 2017 season.
Originally only 8 members of the media were with Lopez when he hinted at the news a deal had been confirmed. By the next morning before Practice at Indianapolis, the whole media converged in front of the Lopez motor-home awaiting Dylan's major announcement. Eventually he came out at a quarter to 9 with this to say.
Good morning everybody. I didn't expect such a crowd in front of us to confirm the driver to tackle next season alongside James Harding. We can straight up confirm however it is not going to be either of Abel Osterhagen or Viktor Östberg which many of you assumed after Jochem confirmed his interest in moving to IndyVirtual next season.
Here at Lopez we strive to be the best we can be, that's one of our main motives on and off the track. Our new signing has the talent to be the best in the field. He can win races, and he can certainly win a world title. Of course, I speak of none other than Elroy Wagner.
The 2015 World Champion has agreed to sign with us for next season, and we're going hammer and tong for him and Harding because they are 2 of the most experienced drivers in the sport. We hope our efforts in developing the 2017 car can help us return to the form we had at the start of this season, and stay there this time around. I believe both drivers will be available for quick interviews after practice, so make sure you have your questions ready. I'm off to a meeting before the session gets underway, so thanks for coming and see you later mates!
So who would've called that? Elroy Wagner, 2015 world champion, headed to Switzerland to join Lopez? Lucky they are located in the predominantly German speaking area of Switzerland, so Wagner can fit right into the culture of the team when he jumps ship at season's end. Could he really add to his success at a team that has fallen off the face of the earth since France? We'll soon find out for sure.
