Italian Formula Virtual team Lamborghini Squadra Corse have revealed their brand-new livery for the 2023 Formula Virtual World Championship. Lamborghini’s new CEO for the Formula Virtual section, Aldo De Lucia, greeted the room full of media personalities and racing figures from around the world. He was then joined by Team Principal Shane O’Connell, Deputy Team Principal Luca Gray, Technical Director Andrea Belli and the team’s drivers for the new season: Felix Beyer, Enzo Domenicalli and Giani Ledesma. “With no time wasted, we now present to you the livery of Lamborghini Squadra Corse.” Following the presentation of the livery, each of the team members took their turn in making a statement for the media. CEO of Lamborghini in Formula Virtual, Aldo De Lucia: “You see with these colours we are paying tribute to the Lamborghini colours of times gone by. These colours which featured on a previous racing car of the past were sadly not as successful as deserved by such a magnificent brand, so we hope to put this right as we move forwards. You will see some partners on the car who had relations with the team as Scuderia Meteor have come back to our team after some of them split from the previous regime last season. We are proud to welcome back FILA, Alessi, ITA Airways, Pallini, Magneti Marelli, Fondmetal and BMPS, as well as Eni as the title sponsor of the team. We also welcome OMP Racing and Grana Padano to the car for the first time. We will look for more partners to join with our project as time goes on.” Team Principal, Shane O’Connell: “2023 is such an exciting year for this team. After the last years, which have been nothing apart from awful, everyone who is involved with or is a fan of the team can now look ahead to a bright future. Rest assured, the DNA from the past of this team will never be lost but will instead be joined by the might of Lamborghini to hopefully reignite the fire here. Already, Lamborghini have worked towards retrieving former Meteor staff who were lost when Kazuki sold the team in 2019 and, as you can see underneath Lamborghini on the engine cover, we have ‘KA’ to remember and pay tribute to the man who is the roots of our team.” Deputy Team Principal, Luca Gray: “I’m very excited to begin my journey in Formula Virtual with Lamborghini and look forward to what we can achieve together.” Technical Director, Andrea Belli: “I can reveal to you that we will begin this season with of course this beautiful new livery but on an updated car of last season. A modified version of the SM221B, which will be the SM221C. The SM221 was built first by us for the 2021 and then used again for the 2022 as was needed. Last season it was for money, it was necessary to use the car again from 2021, but that is not the case now. To say it simply, Lamborghini bought the team very late in 2022 and the time between then and early 2023 was too short to build the car that we want, the car that will carry this team forward. So for now we use the old car with some modifications, then we bring the new car, the Lambo 223, after the start of the season. Let us hope this is in time for the European season.” Driver #1, Felix Beyer: “For me this transition to become a full Lamborghini works team is a dream. To drive for a brand as legendary as Lamborghini is such an honour for me and it feels like a big relief after not knowing if the team will stay in the sport for as long as I can remember. Since I came here in 2020 I really have developed a love for the people behind the scenes and I want us to all succeed together, I’m confident we can.” Driver #2, Enzo Domenicalli: “It is so good to be here again. From last season when I left the team as it was with the former owners, I was so sure it is the end of my time in FV but maybe you can say destiny took over and brought us together once more with Lamborghini. I know we will all work hard to bring the performance that we all wish for.” Reserve Driver, Giani Ledesma: “Mamma mia, the car is beautiful! When we have the brand-new car ready I hope she goes like she looks, we will be reaching new heights! I’m so happy to be here for the new chapter of this team, everything feels good for us ahead.” Beginning the year with the old car is surely an inconvenience for Lamborghini but perhaps it is a necessary one in the name of moving forwards. For certain everyone involved with Formula Virtual will be glad to see this team, which once looked certain for death, trying to make something of itself.
