In a recent interview, Lamborghini CEO Stephan Winkelmann suggested that the Italian marque is looking for a vast improvement from its customer team in FV: BMPS Scuderia Meteor. Automobili Lamborghini S.p.A. have now provided engines to Italy’s only FV team for 3 seasons including the upcoming 2022 season. Unfortunately, results so far have been not only poor but non-existent with the team failing to even qualify to the race day 47 times. With the new season looming, it seems as if Lamborghini are now becoming tired. Winkelmann, who began his role as President and CEO in 2005, was recently interviewed by Insider and found himself questioned on Lamborghini’s commitments to Virtual Motorsport. When asked if the Italian manufacturer was happy with how things are going, the German said “It would be a lie to say yes one hundred percent. Our eVirtual team had a good debut season, we are confident of progression in the eV series and our aims regarding electric motoring. But, in FV, it is not acceptable currently. We believe the engines we provide are to a good standard to compete with Alfa Romeo at the very least. Every step of the process from our side is closely inspected, then we give them [Scuderia Meteor] the engines, who knows what happens after the transfer is made. We need to see progress soon.” The timing of this could hardly be worse for the struggling Scuderia Meteor. The Italian team, headed by owner Piercarlo Caliri, approaches the new FV season with a year old chassis which even last season looked outdated and underdeveloped, and under the dark clouds of an ongoing legal battle with ex-driver Mario Juan Lopez. The season seems to be going in the wrong direction even before a wheel is turned.
