As promised before the new Formula Virtual season launched, Lamborghini Squadra Corse have brought their new chassis to this weekend’s French V-Prix. The Italian marque, which took over the Scuderia Meteor team at the end of last year, will launch their brand new chassis at the French V-Prix, the start of the European season. The chassis used for the opening five races of this season, named the SM221C, was originally used for the 2021 Formula Virtual season and made the grid just once in the entire year. With the team being in such a dire financial position for the entirety of it’s existence under the ownership of the Caliri family, the SM221 chassis was used as the SM221B for 2022 where it was woefully slow until the final races of the season, where long term driver Felix Beyer remarkably finished fifth at the final race of the season with teammate Giani Ledesma bringing his car home to tenth to score 11 crucial points for the team in their final race as Scuderia Meteor. Lamborghini’s late purchase of the team meant they were forced to use the outdated design once more for the opening races of 2023 but promises were made that the brand new ‘Lambo 223’ was in the works. Sure enough, it is now ready for the team to hopefully take their next step. Lamborghini Technical Director Andrea Belli told media: “So happy to bring the new car for the European races, so happy. The first races of this year with the old car are not good, most of all the non-qualification in Dubai, but we hope that the sacrifice will pay off when we get the best out of the brand new car. Giani has worked himself to death with me and with the team and we are happy for the potential for the rest of the season. Whether it will bring some points? It is impossible to say, but we hope to make it eventually.”
