Ukrainian driver Dmytro Kovalenko has confirmed he will race in Formula Virtual next season, after having his contract purchased by Australian team AMR. However, speculation continues to run rife regarding the team's ability to compete next season, if indications from close sources are anything to go by. "Very happy to get my FV chance, thanks to all involved!" were the words shared online by Kovalenko, after it was revealed his contract had been purchased from Holmqvist's Indy Virtual team. A cause for intrigue, though, was that the announcement comes from the driver himself, while silence is deafening on the receiving team's end. While a trail of whispers and rumours passed on from personnel close to AMR are little to confirm a story, signs are pointing to a very ill part-time team owner, and a potential change of ownership in the coming weeks.
"He's certainly not well," says one member, who wished to remain confidential. "There's no colour in [Ryan Petersen's] face at all. He'd stand for maybe five, ten minutes max then need to rest. You can hear the struggle when he speaks; like every word is an effort. I don't think he's going to be around for much longer. It's amazing he's stayed here this long given how much b******* has gone on." The hostility in the team took it's biggest toll after the Italian vPrix, where it was announced that research firm AMR were ceasing involvement with the team, taking most of their personnel - and the money - with them. Since then, it has been a mad scramble to find new investment to keep the team, formerly known as Force Australia, competing in the sport. Now, it appears a new team owner and principal are also on the horizon. Despite the difficulties, both Beyer and new signing Kovalenko seemed relatively upbeat. "Sure it's hard, but it's not impossible," said Beyer, who will race with the team for the fifth time next season. "I'm looking forward to Dmytro joining the team, and where we can head next season given how much precedes us."
