"I'm absolutely thrilled Downton have given me this opportunity," Klaas commented. "Firstly to drive at home, and secondly to race with them next season. I feel I'm ready after a number of seasons in the lower categories, but I don't want to get too carried away just yet - I still have a championship to win."
"We're delighted to announce Klaas with be racing for us in 2017," Bradley Downton said in a press conference. "He's proven himself to be a very quick and competitive young driver, and I'm sure that won't change when he joins Formula Virtual. Naturally there will be a learning curve, but we have the utmost confidence in Klaas."
Notably both the teams current drivers were absent from interviews on Thursday evening, and Downton refused to be drawn in to questions over who would partner van Snelheid next season.
"Obviously one of them will be without a race seat, however we have both contracted to the team next season. Two into one clearly doesn't go, so one will miss out - but we have not and will not make that decision until the end of the season. Frankly - whoever performs better will get the seat, we want the absolute best we can get."
