Klaas van Snelheid put Downton at the head of the times for the first time in the teams history on the third day of pre-season testing as they rolled the super soft tyres out.
van Snelheid's time of 1:12.332 was just under nine tenths quicker than that of Franklin's new reserve driver Rodolfo de la Fuente, who was running on soft tyres. There were also smiles at FIRST as Arden Hutchinson put the American outfit third fastest, albeit on super soft tyres.
At the opposite end of the time sheets, things didn't go quite as well for 2016's other new teams. Aron Einarsson's Holmqvist broke down with a spectacular engine failure after just four laps which ruled him out for the remainder of the day, while Aleksy Nowosinki suffered brake failure at the final corner and crashed the new North Star.
He was taken to the medical centre for checks but given the all clear while North Star set about the task of diagnosing the failure and repairing the car before Judson Sikes takes it back over tomorrow. Elsewhere the Westwood made it's on track debut in their striking new livery with Tumo Kinnumen at the wheel.
