It was Downton's Klaas van Snelheid who ended practice on top today, but all eyes were on Malaysian V-Prix winner James Vasquez who put in a time good enough for second fastest under the scorching Silverstone sun. Klaas van Snelheid looked strong at the front of the field, setting good laps on his high fuel runs before starting qualifying simulations. This will be welcome for Downton who are looking to hit back after rivals Porsche Mathershaw have won two races in a row. James Vasquez ended up in second with an excellent effort, and he'll be hoping to replicate his heroics from Malaysia to aid Ingram's bid for 3rd in the championship. Behind them it was Ruiz and Powers making it four teams in the top four spots. Phoenix yet again had a strong showing as they ended the session in P6 and P7, and will surely be looking for a double points finish. Meanwhile Zetticci struggled, only managing a time good enough for P8 - the Italian rookie reporting severe understeer at low to medium speed and never quite seeming to get the grip he wanted from his Downton. Ocelot also looked good in P10 and P11, looking well set to capitalise on the misfortune of those in front. Further back, Jean Mattson struggled severely compared to his teammate. He was only able to set a lap good enough for P15. The FIRST cars had a solid session, ending up P13 and P18 and looking strong in the midfield on long runs. Highwind elected to run McLaughlin in practice this weekend, and the test driver didn't disappoint - managing to set a lap good enough for the top 20 in his Highwind. Zientek also looked more confident this weekend as he was only half a tenth back from McLaughlin. Further back, perhaps the biggest gainers on the grid were Meteor - despite missing the strategy deadline they were just three tenths off of the nearest car, in an excellent effort from the minnows who surely will be looking to carry that pace into qualifying as they look to get classified for the season. We look forward to a tense qualifying session tomorrow, where cloud covers are expected to help keep temperatures down as Silverstone endures a heatwave. See full practice results below.
