It was Klaas who proved the best of the grid today as he put his car on pole position for tomorrow's race, ahead of teammate Nathaniel Powers. Downton enjoyed a reasonable gap back to the field but the top ten were still only separated by just over half a second. Q1 Takahashi and Arrow will have been frustrated to return to Q1, but they did so in solid form with Takahashi best of the Q1 runners. Despite his teammate Brynildsen floundering a bit some half a second back, the gap to the non-qualifiers was still approximately three tenths. The North Stars were once again separated by a small margin and occupied second and third; both proceeding to Q2. Q2 It was a rare session that saw drivers queueing at the end of the pitlane prior to the green light in order to obtain optimal track position. With the longer lap minimising the effect of traffic, it also increased the importance of a mistake free run as the drivers knew they'd be limited on their attempts more so than usual. Despite the track losing a lot of its grip, Klaas van Snelheid was fastest by just under a tenth, while the nearest car to the Downtons was the ever impressive Allar Kangur in third. Thunstrom provided a shock by putting his Lucas fourth, while teammate Thunder ensured both Lucas cars would start inside the top ten with a lap good enough for ninth. However FIRST also saw an upturn in form at this circuit, with Hoskins and Perez qualifying fifth and eighth respectively; they'll be hoping to make the most of this opportunity in a close fight in the midfield of the championship. It was disappointment for Ruiz as he missed the top ten, and shares the sixth row with Xylander. Another driver to be disappointed was Forini who was only able to secure fourteenth place; yet another poor qualifying from the rookie which puts the pressure on his teammate Addison in sixth for tomorrow's race. Meyer continued the form for Ford as his AMR looked more lively than we've come to expect lately. He managed fifteenth place ahead of Alvarez in the second Phoenix. Looking further back, Ingram were once again struggling with both cars outside the bottom twenty, Vasquez being marginally ahead of his returning teammate Mattson. Meanwhile the cars hit by the change in grip levels on track seemed to be the Arrows and Kidd. They lost the most laptime compared to their Q1 results, occupying the bottom three spots on the grid and will surely be disappointed with where they find themselves. Full classification below.
