In a move that has been quietly rumored for some time, North Star Racing have announced that 2017 IndyVirtual champion Brock Kidd has been signed to a race seat with the team for the 2021 season. The American, understood to have made the move from Downton after North Star secured a contract buy-out, will race alongside Johan Halvosen, who remains with the British-Canadian outfit for a fourth season.
"We are incredibly excited to be bringing Brock on board for next season," team principal Nick Forrest told reporters. "He's a fiercely talented individual, and being paired with Johan, who's been doing a stellar job for us this season, it gives us two great racers to push both each other and the team forward into 2021." Kidd will become the third former IndyVirtual driver to make their Formula Virtual debut, following the arrival of both Nick Addison and Yakumi Takahashi on the grid in 2020, with Franklin and Arrow respectively. Forrest believes the performances of Addison and Takahashi in their rookie campaigns show what Kidd can achieve. "Being paired up against two very strong drivers with a lot of FV history - including race victories - behind them in Enzo [Domenicalli] and Lewis [Ellington], you've got Nick and Yakumi still emerging as the effective lead drivers in their respective teams, and putting in some fantastic drives across the season so far." "With the skill that Brock was able to show in winning the IndyVirtual championship against guys that have been performing that strongly since they arrived in FV, but also the level that Johan has risen to over the last couple of years with us, becoming arguably the best driver outside of the top teams in the field, I think it will be incredibly close between the two of them. I, for one, cannot wait to see what they're able to do in the car come testing."
