The world was looking forward to the 2023 Formula Virtual season with excitement. Three new teams made it onto the grid, the driver market changed a lot and there was also movement among the team bosses. After Mathershaw announced his end as team boss of "Porsche Mathershaw" in 2022, Sven Schubert got his chance as team manager. Previously under contract with Phoenix, the German was now given what is probably the biggest task under the new team "Porsche FV Team" to continue the success of the past Mathershaw days. Now with 5 races into the season Porsche are placed only 6th in the Constructors' Championship and some are wondering what could be the reason for this dramatic drop. Sky Sports FV was lucky enough to interview Porsche team boss Sven Schubert.
Sky Sports FV: "Hello Mr. Schubert, first of all we are very pleased that you are still willing to conduct an interview with us, despite the recent disappointing results for Porsche and the high pressure on you personally!" Sven Schubert: “Hello. Thanks for the invitation!" Sky Sports FV: "What do you think is the biggest obstacle to success and important points at the moment?" Sven Schubert: “In my opinion, the biggest obstacle at the moment is the restructuring that took place in winter. With Robert (Mathershaw) an established team boss has left and made room for a newcomer like me, which of course brings a breath of fresh air. However, it throws more obstacles in our way at the moment and we are paying dearly for them at the moment.” Sky Sports FV: "Do the drivers have major problems with the car or what is the situation on the track?" Sven Schubert: “Yes, the drivers primarily complain about the top speed and the handling of the engine. The chassis seems to work fine but the engine response is abysmal compared to previous years. We must and will work on this so that we are back where we belong as a team in 2024. Right up front!” Sky Sports FV: "As you know, there are also some critics of you who now feel confirmed in these results. What can you say about that?” Sven Schubert: “Criticism is part of the business, but I don't let the partly exaggerated criticism of me, the drivers and the team get through. They try to set fire, but we are Porsche. That doesn't work for us." Sky Sports FV: “What is the future of drivers for Porsche? Sven Schubert: “We are very satisfied with our drivers. Enrique is one of the top 3 drivers in the field and Alexander is delivering a great rookie season. He doesn't feel under pressure and is visibly improving from race to race. I expect great things for us in the coming years!” Sky Sports FV: "Thank you very much Mr. Schubert. We can only hope for the team that the trend will pick up again quickly and that Porsche will soon be able to achieve good results again.” It remains to be seen how the Porsche team will develop further. However, it is certain that some things will change to improve performance. Whether short-term or long-term development, Porsche's demands lie elsewhere.
