The report from the final day of the pre-season testing ahead of the 2024 Formula Virtual World Championship. It was Porsche who finished pre-season testing on top as Alexander McLaughlin’s time of 1:12.622 topped the timesheets by three and a half tenths of a second from Lamborghini’s Felix Beyer, who was a tenth ahead of Dmytro Kovalenko in the AMR. The top nine drivers were all on the soft tyres and all within just over a second of each other – suggesting we could see an incredibly close field from top to bottom this season. Behind the top three came Cesar, Ruotsalainen – the young rookie in an excellent showing for SRT, Ruiz, Addison, Halvosen and Marcus Thunder. Klaas van Snelheid was 1.6 seconds off the fastest time of the day, but the Dutchman was on the hard tyres. As was Peugeot Westwood’s Thierry Xylander, who was just a couple of hundredths away from the reigning World Champion. Max Meyer, on the mediums, was disappointed to be 1.7 seconds away from McLaughlin; the Lopez driver’s running was limited to 22 laps after the team found an issue with the car midway through the session. Allar Kangur got his first taste of the new IGP Carrack but could only manage 13th on the hard tyres, ahead of Phoenix’s James Thompson – although ‘JT’, also on the hards, managed just 16 laps as the British team struggled with mechanical issues. The McNair ARROW team finished an incredibly frustrating pre-season testing with another crash – this time it was Yakumi Takahashi who crashed heavily after just four laps. Team Principal Ben Farrell was visibly furious as the team now head to Australia very much on the back foot. Official classification below:
