FIRST Robotics:
“We have thoroughly enjoyed our time in Formula Virtual as title sponsor and co-owner of FIRST Motorsport. When Adam approached us with the idea to go racing 6 years ago, we jumped onboard because we thought it was a great opportunity to spread FIRST’s impact further around the globe. Over the last 6 years, FIRST [Robotics] has experienced a lot of growth internationally, part of which must be attributed to our involvement in Formula Virtual. In addition, our competitions and activities have become even more widespread within the United States, which will only help the country’s education system moving forward. As our team has progressed up the grid, it has become apparent that the team needs more financial support than we are willing to offer to continue to be successful and build into future championship contenders. We have thoroughly enjoyed our time in Formula Virtual and our team’s ride from the back of the grid to becoming established front runners and even winning some races has been an incredible one. We wish the best of luck to the team going forward and know that the team will be under strong leadership.” FIRST Motorsport: “Throughout the history of FIRST Motorsport, FIRST Robotics has been hugely instrumental to the team. They took a chance to invest in the team in late 2014 when we were merely an idea on paper. Since then, they’ve supported the team through our season in FV2, our entry into Formula Virtual in 2016, and every season since then. Even when things went poorly in 2018, FIRST Robotics were confident in the long-term plan we all had and continued their support. With the team continuously growing and looking to compete for championships in the future, FIRST Robotics felt that it had gotten what it wanted out of the partnership with the team, and that further support to an ever-growing team would give diminishing returns for them. We have worked hard to find a group to replace them that will be able to provide that support while being as good of a partner as FIRST [Robotics] has been. We plan on announcing the new ownership structure within the next month or so, as well as any other changes that might be associated with this.” FIRST Motorsport has a long-term deal with Ford to supply engines to the team that is unlikely to be affected as a result of ownership changes. The team is currently running 3rd in the constructors’ championship, with Will Hoskins and Felix Perez each scoring a win for the team so far this season. The team has not announced anything in regards to its 2021 driver lineup.
