Le Mans, 5/11/2018 In a move that will surprise substantially more people in the paddock than the similar announcement on Thursday, SFR DS Automobiles Team Mathershaw have announced the signing of Sebastien Vocquelin for the 2019 and 2020 seasons, taking over the contract previously held by Meteor International prior to their takeover by Adam Willis. While Jules Barclay was previously announced to be the team's test and reserve driver, Vocquelin will now fill the role, with the Canadian rumoured to be moving to a similar role with Lucas V-Prix.
Arthur Lapierre was keen to show his support for the deal: "We are very pleased to be able to announce the signing of Sebastien from Meteor, and to welcome him officially into the DS Performance family. It cannot be denied that his debut season in Formula Virtual has been very difficult, and not without incident, but he has consistently been the leading light in terms of results. Additionally, I ran him in France then in VERS in 2017 - any driver that can get 3 victories and finish second in his debut season has to have a real talent." DS Performance Head of Driver Development Alex Easton was also available for comment: "I'm going to be blunt - he was promoted way too early to FV, and Seb is the first man to admit that. We know he's still got plenty to offer, so we're going to have a chat with the relevant people about getting him the chance to enter the junior championships - and maybe even expand the rule to include other drivers who were never able to show what they were about in Tier 2 . We are confident that the governing body will make the right decision for the good of young driver's careers." It remains to be seen whether Sebastien Vocquelin will be able to salvage his career from the wreckage of the previous Meteor regime, but DS Automobiles have certainly offered him a lifeline when many were more than happy to see him fail.
