Nathaniel Powers and Matteo Zettici, making another appearance for the reigning champions, led a Downton 1-2 in practice for the German V-Prix. Zettici in particular impressed lapping less than six hundredths slower than his illustrious team mate. There has been chatter in the pit lane that Zettici’s practice appearances are to showcase his talent for a seat next year and today’s showing will have done him no harm. Felix Perez also impressed as he managed to lap faster than the Mathershaws as he looks to continue his strong run of form. Will Hoskins ended the session in 6th, three tenths behind the Mexican. Mathershaw Porsche will be disappointed with 4th and 5th, but Simon will be happy to have found a tenth on his teammate as he looks to get his championship hopes back on track. Johan Halvosen continues to put his North Star best of the rest in 7th, this time followed by the Ingram of Mattson and home favourite Elroy Wagner. Luckless James Vasquez and perennial retiree Thierry Xylander both lapped well in their hunt for their first points, the Colombian just edging the Phoenix man out of the top 10. The midfield battle continues to be tight, just over three tenths covering Wagner in 9th and Milkovich in 21st. Two drivers who will have wanted more were under pressure Gabriele Garcia, who was half a second down on the lead North Star, and Ocelot rookie Dominykas Zvironas who is looking for a new team for next season. On the other hand, both local hero Karl Beckenbauer and Lucas’ Carson Davenport will be pleased with their efforts today. Both Cheemas looked to have the pace to escape Q1 as did the two Arrows, Takahashi in particular looking strong in 18th. Kiara Thunder raised an eyebrow or two as she lapped faster than Addison as the two battle for the 2021 Franklin seat alongside Danilo Forini. She’ll hope to continue that form in qualifying as Addison has generally had the better of her so far this season. At the back was the familiar sights of the AMRs and the Meteors, who occupied 4 of the bottom 5 runners to set a time. Along with them was Westwood’s test driver Olen Inman, who complained throughout the session about the balance of the car as he ended up seven tenths behind Beckenbauer. Marcus Thunder unfortunately couldn’t complete a lap as he spent the session frustrated in the pit lane with technical trouble.
