Downton have today confirmed they have split with petroleum supplier BP - a company they have been partnered with since Formula Virtual's inception in 2013 - and have struck up a new deal with Repsol as of the 2021 season. The British outfit have long since featured the bright green and yellow logo on their car - standing out against the now classically orange paintwork - however for 2020 they instead featured the logo of BP's subsidiary company Castrol, which came with an introduction of white to the livery.
This evening however, the team have confirmed the split entirely, and announced a new multi-year deal with Repsol moving forwards. "BP and Castrol have been fantastic partners over the last eight years," a spokesperson for the team said. "It has been fantastic to share the success we have had with them, however time always comes for change, and for us and this situation, that is now. We are very excited about our new partnership with Repsol, and look forward to working with them closely over the coming years." The immediate questions on social media were of whether this would indicate a livery change for the team. "Strange for a team to announce fuel supplier change. Teaser for Repsol livery incoming?" tweeted mikeb01fvfan. "Glad to hear Castrol gone. Hopefully this means Downton are rid of that hideous white" was added by loulouyoung. Unfortunately no comment was made on any livery alternations following the news, but with launch season creeping closer, it will surely only be a matter of time before we get our answer.
