Cyber Automata Motorsport will join the Formula Virtual grid in 2024, after being accepted as the fifteenth team. Jamie Franklin will return to competing in Formula Virtual with a new team for 2024. Cyber Automata was accepted by the FVA among a number of candidates to fill the vacant spot left on the grid following the departure of North Star.
Jamie Franklin last ran a team back in 2022, that being the famous Franklin FV Team that won three constructor world championships. The legendry team principle makes a sensational return with a new team from scratch. It has been revealed that the team, based in the United Kingdom, will run the car numbers eleven and twelve. This is believed to be a nod towards the Franklin team that folded at the end of 2022, who also ran those numbers. "When I decided to leave Formula Virtual in 2022, I thought that was it for me. I left the sport as one of the most successful team principals with three Constructor's titles, and four driver's titles. I didn't quite leave in the circumstances I wanted to, but in my mind, I'd closed out the final chapter in Formula Virtual. But then in late November, I was approached by Eleanor (Sterling), the CEO and founder of Cyber Automata. She shared with me her vision for a small team, using AI to both design the cars, decide the race strategy, as well as a myriad of other things. I have to say, she's a very convincing woman, and the challenge very much excited me. I have a lot of fond memories of running my own team, but it does come with a lot of pressure, especially when you're a team that has had a lot of success in the past. Now, I'm not saying that there won't be pressure running this team, but it's a very different kind. I'm sure there will be plenty of people who may think that this venture is a little bit nuts, but I believe in Eleanor's vision, and I've seen some of the data that the AI has already come up with. It's going to take some time to build the team up into what it's truly capable of, but I'm really excited in being one of the driving forces behind this project," said Jamie Franklin. Members of the FVA were also available to comment. "It is fantastic for the sport to welcome back such a big name in Jamie Franklin. I have to say I am intrigued by situation we have here, with a championship winning team principle coming back into the sport to start a team from the ground up. It is certainly something I and I'm sure many fans will be keeping an eye on", said Nic Morley. Speculation will now begin with who the drivers will be and what engine manufactrer will be powering the team. Welcome to Formula Virtual, Cyber Automata.
